Martin LANDMANN Obituary
MARTIN FRANK LANDMANN 1923 - 2021 Martin was born in Mannheim, Germany into a respected Jewish family. In his childhood, as conditions for Jews worsened, relatives and friends assisted the Landmanns to move to Amsterdam and on to Canada in 1939. Martin's was one of the very, very few Jewish families granted visas by the Canadian government during the Nazi era. Martin served in the Canadian Army, and earned a B.A. at the University of Toronto after the war. Over the years, he worked in advertising, had a bookstore and he eventually developed a passion for financial investing. Martin's career as a father was a long one. His first marriage to Val gave him Talya and Peter Landmann (Eveline-Louise Gagne), and ended in divorce. In 1970, Martin married the late and well-loved Margaret, and Karen and Mark Landmann (Doug Dosdall) joined the family. In 1992, Martin married Ann Cameron and welcomed to the household Marc Burroni (Isobel Russell) and David Cameron (Catherine Byrne). Martin had eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild by the time he died at the age of 97. Martin was a keen traveler, and at home enjoyed many happy evenings with good food and dear friends. He loved contemporary a cappella choral music, and followed world events avidly. He was a man of ordered mind, intelligence, integrity, generosity, reliability, kindness, and good humour. During the time of Martin's illness, he received many affectionate messages from friends, recalling episodes in his life when he had quietly given them help and good counsel. Martin chose to end his life with the support of the Vancouver Coastal Health MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) team, and wished us to thank them. He died with his wife of 29 years, and two loving sons, Mark and David, around him.
