Lizanne
I was doing a google search, which was quickly forgotten when, instead of whatever forgotten topic I was looking up, I instead saw your name, which gave me a quick cheer, until I saw that it was attached to the very sad news of Martin´s passing.
I could hear your voice in the beautiful obituary that I was honoured to read, and I am so very sorry at the terrible loss that you suffered when your cherished Martin left this world.
I hope you are starting to find a reason to smile your infectious smile again and that the memory of your 40 years with Martin continues to give you great comfort in any dark hours that still linger.
Much love to you and your entire family. I miss the Bertrands very much!
Again my deepest sympathy and please know that this name from the long ago past is thinking about you.

Truly sad. Martin and I travelled England some 50 years ago together. We were young and curious as Martin led the way to so many lives. He truly brought joy to everyone who crossed his path.

I first met Martin in New Zealand in 1976, 47 years ago, and we have been mates ever since.
I went to Toronto in 1979 and started working for the New Zealand Consulate. I was there on the night he opened Hemingway´s.
Our hearts go out to you Lizanne and family.
Martin was a great friend and very generous to us and many who he cared for.
A man who has lived well, laughed often and was loved by many.
Gone to soon.

Sincere condolences from me and the entire Suddick family to Lizanne and all who knew and loved Martin. He was such a good, kind, brilliant man. I'm having a lot of difficulty believing he's gone. He helped many. I'll always be thankful to him for helping me get established as a young freelancer. Martin hired me to create characters for the buttons and t-shirts for the many events and promotions he hosted at Hemingway's. I thought it would be appropriate to post a few of the things that we worked on over the many years I've known him. I hope they provoke good memories and give someone a smile during this terribly sad time.

My sincere Condolences to Lizanne & all of Martin's love ones. May his soul Rest in Eternal Peace. Thank you Martin for all the wonderful memories created at Hemmingway. It's never the same without you. I think my friends & I may have been part of the original 50 in the 80's. New Years Eve's in the library followed.
Lots at share later. Again, heartfelt Condolences to all.

Shocked at the passing on to the big rugby field in the sky of a very dear friend to all us Rugby bums. I always loved Hemmys' as it was always full of interesting people. The German & Finnish Consuls, Air Canada people who came over from their office.
When I was in hosptal for my knee & hip ops. it was Martin who came to visit me, twice. A life very well lived & now missed by many of us

Lizanne, My heart is broken for your loss. Martin was a lovely man. His smile was as unique as his ponytail. His ease in conversation, ready to share a thoughtful greeting, always asking how someone else was. May his wonderful memory be a blanket to your heart, now and forever. RIP dear Martin.

I´ve known Martin since his first few weeks in Toronto. He and I played rugby on the same team. When asked what his position was, he responded that he´d play anywhere, which he did - back row, scrum-half, centre.
Martin loved fast cars. His first major purchase was a Mustang Fastback, which he enjoyed redlining at every opportunity!
We´ll all going to miss Martin!

Truly a kind, gentle and loving soul. Marty was loved by everyone who had the good fortune to meet him. Always a smile on his face.
Marty was an incredible supporter of rugby in Canada and always opens his doors at Hemingways to host fundraisers and rugby events.
May you RIP Martin!
