so sorry to hear of Martin's passing - he was my faculty advisor when I attended AST from 1994 to 1998 - he was a great support and counsellor through those four years

As a close childhood friend of both Heidi and Bob, I spent many a day playing around Martin and Barbara´s beautiful house at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax. They were two of the kindest and most interesting parents I´d ever encountered - in fact among the loveliest adults I´ve met to this day. As a kid I knew Martin had some health issues but only now as `a grownup´ do I realize the grace with which he dealt with those early challenges. Regardless, both Martin and Barbara were always so welcoming to me (no playdate was complete without one of Barbara´s legendary Jello popsicles!) Their hospitality endured for many years, and as the time between visits grew longer they always remained keen to hear my news. Their genuine interest in what I was up to as I began to spread my wings beyond Halifax always made me feel valued during some of my most turbulent times as a young adult...it was a rare gift I did not get much of and I´m forever grateful to Peter, Bob and Heidi for sharing their parents´ warmth and care with me. Such fond memories of the entire Rumscheidt family, courtesy of Martin and Barbara´s `leadership by example´ of what it really means to be a good human being.
