MARY BROOKS Obituary

1930 - 2026 On February 5, 2026, in her 96th year, our beautiful mother, Mary Joyce Brooks (née Jenner), passed away peacefully, surrounded by her five daughters: Nancy (Jim Peterson), Sue (Jamie McNair), Chris (Peter McAuley), Pat (John Fielding), and Judy (Tim Low). "JoJo" will also be sadly missed by her 16 grandchildren: Jamie (Ann), Katie (Nando), Doug (Margaret), Paisley (Steve), Steve (Hannah), Patrick (Ashley), Mike (Lauren), Rob (Ruby), Katie (Stafford), David, Andrea (Mike), Gillian (Jerome), Christopher, Stephanie (Will), Geoff, and Charlie, as well as her 13 great-grandchildren. Joyce grew up in Lawrence Park with her adored siblings, Inez and Jim, who introduced her to her childhood sweetheart, Bob Brooks. We lost Dad in 2007, the love of Mom's life and her husband of 54 years. A graduate of the University of Toronto Occupational Therapy program, Mom used her creative and artistic skills throughout her life. Daily cryptoquips, crosswords, sudoku, and cribbage helped maintain her sharp mind. Embracing the outdoors in every season, she often lost track of time cross-country skiing, dog walking, swimming, curling, gardening, or golfing at The Toronto Ladies. We only missed a few lunches, dinners, and school pick-ups. She had an eye for stylish fashion and design, was an accomplished guitarist, and created a vast collection of whimsical Santas that we will treasure forever. Always a project on the go - never a dull moment. Mom made everything warmer, lighter, and more beautiful. Mom and Dad's greatest joy was spending summers with our family at the cottage in Pointe au Baril, a gathering place for our growing clan. All generations were welcomed and cherished time with Jojo. She valued inclusion, warmth, and connection - a true matriarch. Youthful, elegant, and beautiful until her final day, Mom was fun-loving, warm-hearted, witty, and endlessly determined. Her favourite motto was: "The difficult we can do at once. The impossible may take a little longer." She lived by it daily. Our family will carry her spirit and bright light forward forever. Many thanks to Dr. Kaplansky, Dr. Howe and team, plus caregivers - her "glam team" - Edna, Letty, Edith, and Leila. A celebration of life is planned for early spring.

All the 56 Alexandra McNeills send our very best wishes to Joyce´s family, especially Nancy, Sue, Chris, Pat, and Judy. We are forever lucky to have lived next door to Joyce and Bob for so many years. We shared driveway chats, gardening tips, Georgian Bay boating adventures, parenting advice, and more. All McNeill family homes display Joyce´s Santas at Christmas time. Joyce will stay in our hearts forever. Brenda McNeill
