Mary CHRISTOPHER Obituary

MARY CHRISTOPHER April 30, 1931 - August 4, 2021 Family and friends are sadly accepting the loss of a vibrant, gracious and elegant woman. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Hugh MacCorkindale, husband Gordon and brother Hugh. She is survived by sister Margaret Smith, sister-in-law Kathy, daughter Cathy, sons Doug (Eva), Phil (Cherie), David (Teri), grandchildren Nikki (Dan), Peter (Anne), Scott, Jill, Sean, Megan and great-grandchildren Hunter, Andreas, Finley, Blair and Sebastian as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary attended Magee High School and UBC and taught home economics at Gladstone before dedicating her life to her family. In addition to taking great delight in her involvement in her children's (and later her grandchildren's) activities, she was an enthusiastic volunteer for many causes such as the United Appeal and Shaughnessy Heights United Church. She was also a strong supporter of Gordon's extensive involvement in the community. She somehow also found time for bridge, double solitaire (often highly competitive til the wee hours at Savary Island), cribbage, tennis and golf (achieving two holes-in-one on the same hole!) as well as gardening and enjoying music. Mary often provided thoughtful notes and pots of soup lovingly delivered to family and friends in times of need. She was a wonderful cook and loved entertaining friends and family. She will be dearly missed by many, and her life leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity and love. A family service will be held at a later date. As much as Mom loved flowers, we believe she would appreciate your contribution to a cause close to your heart instead.

Dear Cathy and family. My sincere condolences on the loss of your lovely mother. I still remember Thanksgiving dinner when I stayed in 1980 on my way back NZ. I had been so looking forward to seeing you and your mother last year but alas Covid19 put paid to that. Richard ( Kittelty)

I met Mary in 1951 after moving from Montreal to Vancouver. We attended UBC together and maintained a long time friendship. Mary was the epitome of grace, warmth, kindness and hospitality. I feel so fortunate to have known her and to have shared a dinner with her at Tapestry when we renewed fond memories of times past. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all members of her very extended family. I know she will be very much missed, but her love and warmth will always be with you.
