Mary MCLEAN Obituary
MARY ALICE McLEAN On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, Mary Alice McLean (Lord, Skinner, Pover), passed away at the age of 92. Mary Alice was born August 28, 1929 in Toronto to Basil and Kathleen (Oke) McLean. She married Frank Lord and they raised two daughters, Margaret (Maggie) and Catherine (Katie) and a son, Patrick. Mary Alice had a strong sense of independence. She returned to the University of Toronto while still having young children at home and in 1965, completed her Master of Social Work. This led to a lifelong career with several organizations including Jewish Family & Child Services and the School Board. She moved from Toronto to British Columbia in her retirement, spending time in Richmond, Pender Island, Victoria and then Vancouver. Mary Alice was unfailingly upbeat and gregarious; always willing to chat and share stories and excited by any opportunity to spend time around young people. She loved to travel and to spend time with her family. She was a role model to many women including within her extended family and fully supportive of their efforts towards education and self-sufficiency. May Alice is survived by her three children, sister Elizabeth and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A small family gathering will be held to commemorate her life.
