MARY McNULTY Obituary

Born in London, Ontario, June 12, 1930. Passed away surrounded by her six children in Collingwood, Ontario, August 16, 2025. Mary Jo was predeceased in 2017 by Tom, her loving husband of 59 years; and leaves behind her children and their partners, Kathleen (John), Tom (Di), Mary (Josef), Shelagh (Michael), Paul (Joulie), and Loo (Matthew); and her 17 grandchildren, Annie, Ben, Mac (Codi), Mick, Thomas, Josef (Nathalie), Lucas (Ben), Max, Beck, Henry, Wiley, Frances, Micaela (Julian), Kara, Callachan, Hugo and Graeme. She also leaves members of the McCabe, Merrifield, Flood, Peirce, and Williams families. Mary Jo grew up in London and St. Thomas, Ontario, with her parents, John Edward and Marion McCabe, and her two older brothers, Peter and Paul. She attended St. Angela's College in London, followed by Brescia College at the University of Western Ontario. Upon graduation, Mary Jo moved to Toronto and began her career as an executive secretary. Following their marriage in 1958, Mary Jo and Tom had stops in Windsor, Kitchener, and Waterloo, before they landed in Toronto in 1963. This began 40 happy years on Garfield Avenue and in the OLPH community, where there was a revolving door and an open refrigerator for all our friends. Family was everything to our parents, and for Mom, this was expressed through our handmade clothes, meals, tenderness, and ensuring our busy house was full of love and fun. She made her unassuming generosity seem effortless. Throughout her years in Toronto, Mary Jo was a committed volunteer at the Princess Margaret Lodge and a decades-long Meals on Wheels driver. Our parents' move to Leaside in 2003 brought her into the St. Anselm's Craft Group, and many years of friendship and community. The final move, to Collingwood in 2011, enriched her life, and her years on Oak Street, with family close by, were happy ones. As Dad's health declined, our mom's care for him was an inspiration, and for their children and grandchildren an example of their love and devotion. Only in her last two years did Mary Jo give up her independence, but she maintained her kind manner and beautiful smile. She received outstanding care, with special mention going to the PSWs and nurses at Pretty River Residence, and the doctors and nurses at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. Visitation will be held at Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Ave., in Toronto, on Tuesday, August 26th, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. There will be a funeral Mass on Thursday, August 28th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anselm Church, 1 Macnaughton Rd., in Toronto, with a reception immediately following at Lamb Hall, St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church, 1399 Bayview Ave. (entrance on St. Cuthberts Road). In lieu of flowers, and if you're so inclined, please kindly send a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
