MARY WILSON Obituary

(nee Barlow) (November 18, 1948 – October 14, 2025) Mary passed peacefully, with her husband, Melville - her partner of 43 years - by her side, following a three-month illness. She is cherished by her sisters, Jo Ann (Bill), Susie (Kenny), and Karen (Jeff); along with her Wilson family: Stephen (Gail), Nigel (Debi), and Cathryn (Charlie). Predeceased by her mother, Bernice; and sister, Kathy (Herb), Mary lived a full and active life centred on her love of family and friends. Passionate about literature, all aspects of the arts and travel, her boundless curiosity shaped everything she pursued. She and Melville often journeyed to their favourite European destinations, especially London and Italy, indulging her love of gardens, museums, and music. Mary's entire career - which included two decades as a law librarian - reflected her dedication to research and learning. An independent thinker, she led with honesty and intelligence. Her legendary organizational skills and lifelong commitment to knowledge defined both her professional and personal life. Mary cared deeply for everyone she met. Devoted to her nieces and nephews across generations, she remained a constant and engaged presence in their lives. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public ceremony. A private gathering will be held in her memory next spring. The family would like to express their thanks to the medical staff and, especially, to the extraordinary nursing care provided at Sunnybrook Hospital. Mary was dedicated to giving back; in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice with appreciation.

Mary was a wonderful colleague whom I admired and respected. I also knew her to be a fierce Scrabble player, which we both preferred to the annual corporate golf tournament. I remember her with fondness. My condolences to her close friends and family.
