Matthew VIBERT Obituary

MATTHEW VIBERT Matthew passed peacefully on Saturday, May 20, surrounded by his loved ones. He will be sorely missed by his wife, Lawrie Badger; sons, Spencer and Hartley; siblings, Wesley, Lindsay and Gail; brothers-in-law, Gregg, Matthew and Storey Badger; sister-in-law, Kate Hunter; and nieces and nephews, Sydney, Will and Bode Badger, Koal, Shayne, and Will Vibert. Countless other family and friends will feel his loss deeply. Raised in Montreal, Matthew's first career was in film production. In Toronto, he became a successful commercial director. Work gave him the opportunity to travel the world, which he fully embraced. Matthew's sons were the shining lights in his life. Some of the best family times were spent at the cottage that Matthew poured his heart and soul into building for them. There is comfort in knowing that Matthew cherished an amazing life, rich in meaningful relationships and diverse experiences. Gratitude goes to Dr. Mihaylova and the team at R.V.H. in Barrie. Their care was beyond measure. They can be recognized via My Care Hero: rvhkeeplifewild.ca. A reception to celebrate Matthew's life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the farm at 3332 Collingwood St, Creemore, Ontario. If you might attend, please email [email protected].

Matthew was the best pal a man could ever have! He had a rebel soul complimented by a heart of gold, whose loyalty to friends and family was unimpeachable. This brother-from-another-mother had my back through good times and bad for almost forty years, that through his support, integrity, guidance and example, was the north star I and several other close friends set our compass bearing to. Whether behind the camera directing commercials in those salad days of Partners, sailing his wooden sloop, raising he and Lawrie's exemplary sons Hartley and Spencer, building furniture in his carpentry shop at the cottage in their beloved Lake Jospeh, surprising his pals with a fluency in foreign languages we never had a clue he had a grasp of, or sipping scotch on the dock engaged in conversation on a myriad number of topics, novels read, or issues of the day, this working class son born to the rough and tumble streets of 1946 Montreal, who would go on to work as a 1ST AD with the likes of John Houston, Sophia Loren, Tony Curtis and Donald Sutherland, personified a Renaissance Man's appetite for life's rich bounty. We will not see his likes again. Rest in Peace ol' buddy. The world was a better place with such a man as you in it.

We were sad to hear of Matthew´s passing. Matthew had a quick wit, a great smile and a heartily laugh. I remember his compassion and earnest engagement in conversations. His presence will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
