MATTHEW WHITELOCK Obituary
In Loving Memory of Matthew William Whitelock (July 5, 1970 - June 17, 2025) - We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Matthew William Whitelock on June 17, 2025, at the age of 54. Born in Toronto on July 5, 1970, Matthew was the beloved son of Ken and the late Eileen Whitelock; and the cherished brother of Kelly Whitelock (Jeff Wagstaff) and Kate Whitelock Davis (Rhett Davis). He will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews: Tori, Thomas, Caitlin, William, Isabella, Jessica, James (Claudia), Jenna (Jordan), and Ava. More recently, he was delighted to spend time with his great-nephews, Mark and Noah. Matthew's creativity and deep love for music were evident from an early age. An accomplished pianist in his youth, he loved putting on concerts for friends and family. His passion for music was boundless - there wasn't a pop song he didn't know by heart, and playing "Name That Tune" with him was a true challenge! In his late twenties, Matthew was dealt a difficult hand with the onset of mental illness. Yet through it all, he rarely complained. He faced each day with quiet strength, finding joy in simple pleasures - time spent at the family cottage in Beaverton, moments in the city he loved, Toronto, and most of all, in the company of those dearest to him. He cherished visits with his cousins, aunts, and uncles in England, and his happiest moments were often the most joyful and spontaneous - dancing around the dining room table with family and friends. A kind and gentle soul, Matthew won the hearts of everyone he met. He will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing he is at peace, reunited with some of his favourite people - his mum, Eileen; his Aunt Maureen; and his dear friend and supporter, Peggy Latimer. The family will hold a private visitation and service. A celebration of life will be planned for later in the year. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, or any mental health organization of your choice.
