MEG CRABBE Obituary

Meg Crabbe (née Shirley McPhee) of Toronto, Ontario passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, surrounded by family. Beloved wife of Richard Marston Crabbe, with whom she lived a happy life for 65 years; dear mother of Catharine Fitton (Karen McCarthy) and George Edward Fitton Crabbe (d. May 5, 2024); dear grandma of Jack Henry Fitton-McCarthy. A graduate of Stratford Normal School, Meg taught at Whitney Public School and was the Art Teacher at Deer Park Public School. She was an active member of the Toronto Symphony Volunteer Committee for 40 years and she chaired the Symphony Supplement published annually in The Globe and Mail. At Grace Church on-the-Hill, she started and chaired the fundraising event Grace Once More for ten years. Meg lived life to the fullest through her family, church, and travels. In 1964, she and Richard embarked on a year-long trip around the world. Every fall, they went hill-walking in the Lake District and every winter, they explored Mexico. Always active, Meg played tennis at the cottage in Southampton, skied at Caledon Ski Club, and enjoyed lunches out with her many close friends. The family would like to thank the wonderful team at the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital for their care and compassion. A funeral will be held at Grace Church on-the-Hill, 300 Lonsdale Road, Toronto, Ontario on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.humphreymiles.com.

She was an unforgettable teacher!

Miss McPhee was my Grade 3/4/5 teacher at Whitney School. We had her for 2 years as we were 'accelerating'- doing 3 years in 2. Many of us attended her wedding to Mr. Crabbe at Rosedale United Church. We were all devoted to her and it was the first wedding I had ever attended. She was a lovely bride. Then she returned to our class as Mrs. Crabbe, and only very rarely was she 'crabby'. She was also my art teacher at Deer Park Senior Public school when both of us moved there to the brand new school. She was a dynamic and innovative teacher. I have indelible memories of my years as her student. What a wonderful life she led! I send my sympathies to her family.
