MICHAEL CUMMINGS Obituary

(September 6, 1940 - January 5, 2026)
Died peacefully at home, holding Donna's hand.

Michael was Toronto's own Beach boy, raised on Hammersmith with his sisters, Carol and Joan; his father, Norm; and mother, Lu. Time spent at Balmy Beach Canoe Club was great, but he loved to be at the family cottage at Lake Scugog. That is where he met the love of his life, Donna (Tindall) Cummings, wife for 57 years, and the rest is history.

Michael had many friends, but he was ""Mikey"" to the kids on Hillside Drive, was a street character (particularly at the Canada Day street celebrations), friendly, kind and fun. Always ready with a freezy, a ride in his Alpha, or a shoulder to cry on in tough times.

Michael loved to read his daily paper and hold court on most topics. He was opinionated, well informed and engaging. The chance of a good Real Estate deal rarely passed him by, his multiple successes were proof of that.

Michael was loved by his in-laws, Irene and Earl, and spent many a weekend at the Tindall cottage on Gull Lake. He was Uncle Mike/ Michael to his nieces and nephews from the Tindall and Cummings Families.

Michael golfed with his friends, Dave and Harry, a regular threesome, and insisted Donna learn so they could play the game together on their travels to the UK.

He and Donna enjoyed their golf at Mad River while at their farm in Creemore, where he could be seen on his pristine tractor cutting grass and taking in the beautiful scenery.

Many friendships were forged and enjoyed at Black Diamond Ranch Golf Club in Florida over the last 27 years.

If you heard a laugh in a room, it was most likely Michael. He spent his last few weeks outside chatting with dog walkers and neighbours on Hillside Drive. Michael was a charitable and caring person with many friends who will miss him.

""May the light perpetually shine on you and may you rest in peace until we all meet again.""

A celebration of life will take place in the Spring.

Hello Donna,

I hope this note reaches you as I just saw Mike's picture and the notice of his passing in The Globe and Mail.
Although we have not been in touch for some time I wanted to send my condolences and thoughts to you in this sad time. I always remember fondly our many times together years ago in the east end at parties, dinners and other happy events, often with Barry Pearce and Mike Lloyd. Weekend trips to your schoolhouse also flood back into my mind. And of course my work with Mike's company driving trucks and making deliveries while I was a long-time university student, often with interior design items for your hugely sucessful firm.

I hope you are managing as best as possible in this trying time, and that you have family and nearby friends to be with.

Please send me an email at my long company address or call if and when you can. I'd appreciate reconnecting and perhaps coming to Toronto whenever you have a memorial service for Mike.

Yours sincerely and with good memories,

Barry Yeates

We shared many a good time with Michael. Despite his health struggles he joked that was not his choice but dealt with it with understanding. Our condolences to Donna who was a loving companion to him.

Met Micheal on Hammersmith in The Beach, I was 12 yrs old (1952) it was immediate love. We ran into each other over the years and my love was still in high gear for him he was like a big brother. One of the most kind, generous, funny gentlemen I had the pleasure of loving. My heart is sad. Norma Burns (Connors)

I knew Mike since we were kids in public school. I lived around the corner from him on Glenmanor Dr and coincidentally his parents bought a cottage on the same road as my parents so I have many stories from our younger years. I had not seen Mike for many years and was saddened to hear of his passing.

What a lovely tribute. I didn´t know Uncle Michael as well as my older siblings and cousins did, but my most vivid memory of him was how often he was laughing and cracking wise. A very funny and straight-talking member of the family who provided me with a lot of fascinating insights about my mother when she died 13 years ago. Love and condolences to Donna.
