MICHAEL JOSEPH HULME October 26, 1948 - September 13, 2021 Michael passed away quietly surrounded by his loved ones at Michael Garron Hospital after his heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. The only son of Doris Hulme (nee Warburton) and Joseph Hulme both of Lancashire, England, Michael was born in Saffron Walden, England in 1948. When he was nine, he moved with his parents and younger sister Barbara to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada where he immediately got to work becoming a proud Canadian. He quickly learned how to skate and play hockey, a game that would bring him great joy into his adult life. In high school, he fell in love with art class and would continue on to study at The Ontario College of Art in Toronto. A talented woodworker and furniture maker, Michael opened a handmade furniture store in Cabbagetown fondly named 'Digs'. He went on to have a successful career as a Project Manager in the Architectural Design field at many of Toronto's top design firms. Michael's true passion was for oil painting. He was quite an accomplished painter and his beautiful paintings and handcrafted furniture remain as a testament of his tremendous creative force. Those who knew Michael understood his unwavering love of and duty to his family, enjoyed his wry sense of humour, admired his breadth of knowledge as a jack-of-all-trades fix it man, his immense creative talent, and knew him to be a true gentleman with a huge heart. Michael was a doer and tirelessly kept up his happy place 'Trevelgue' the family cottage on the shores of Lake Huron in South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario with amazing perseverance and resiliency. His last summer was spent at Trevelgue surrounded by his family which was an enormous source of happiness and comfort for him. Michael is survived by his sisters Barbara Hulme Baetz and her husband Paul Baetz, Linda Hulme Leahy and her husband Miles Leahy, Chris Hulme Colin and her husband Stephane Colin, Jean Hulme-Boughner and her husband Tim Boughner, his nieces and nephews Jenny, Shane, Ryan, Henry, Marc, Emily, Sarah and Ben, his ex-wives Judy McLean and Lorraine Huebner, his beloved children Chelsea Hulme-Wilyman and her husband Cory Wilyman, Eric Hulme and his partner Anne Donafeld, Claire Hulme and her partner Liam Walmsley, Katie Hulme, James Hulme, his only grandchild Juliet Hulme, and his loving wife Colleen Hulme. He was our fearless leader, our touchstone. He will forever be loved and cherished. His legacy and love lives on through the village he created and the wisdom he imparted on all of us. 'Yeah we all shine on, like the moon and the stars and the sun' - John Lennon Cremation has been facilitated by The Heritage Funeral Centre and Michael will be laid to rest on Thanksgiving 2021 by his family at Trevelgue.
