Michael LUCYK Obituary

LUCYK, Michael D.D.S.
April 1, 2002. After several years of coping admirably with a series of health setbacks, his fighting spirit succumbed to the eventual consequences of time. Survived by his wife Sophie, his daughters Christine and Mary, sons-in-law, Richard Brott and David Heaman, and grandchildren, Jessica, Michael and Kevin. Predeceased by his beloved son David, his brother William and sister Mary. He will be fondly remembered by sister-in-law Pauline Lucyk and many other relatives in Canada and the U.S. Born in Calgary and schooled in Toronto, he was graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry with the class of 4TO, and soon afterward enlisted in the Canadian Army, serving overseas as a Captain in the Dental Corps during WWII. He was highly dedicated to the advancement of his chosen profession as a practitioner, lecturer and advocate, and as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry. As well, he was awarded life memberships and other honours in local, national and international dental organizations. He was a man of many interests and never hesitated to volunteer his time and talents in organizations and activities beyond his profession. An avid golfer, he was the oldest member of St. George's Golf Club to score a hole-in-one at the age of 81. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5 in the Chapel of the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre, 60 Richview Road (west of Scarlett Road). A memorial gathering of colleagues and friends will be held at St. George's Golf Club on Thursday, April 11. For details telephone 416-235-1235 or 416-487-3637. Donations in his memory to the Care Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
