MAWSON, Michael Keiran
Michael Keiran Mawson: a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend and mentor to many in the Canadian theatrical community, died at Stratford, Ontario on Tuesday, October 24, 2000, of cancer in his fifty-fifth year. Michael was the beloved son of Moira and the late Jack D. Mawson, and the beloved step-son of James B. Lawrence (Bud). Michael Mawson was born in Kingston, Ontario and spent his formative years in Kingston, Gimli, Manitoba and Ottawa, Ontario. Michael attended Queen's University and the National Theatre School of Canada. Michael will be deeply mourned by his sisters Maureen and her husband Victor; Kathleen; Jacqueline, her husband Craig and their twin daughters Siobhan and Caitlin; Rosalyn and her husband Daniel; and by dozens of friends, all of whom valued his wit, intelligence, loyalty, guidance and passion for theatre. At the time of his death he was Principal of the Stratford Festival of Canada Conservatory for Classical Theatre Training and Director of Theatre Training at the Stratford Festival. For many years he taught at the National Theatre School, the University of Windsor, Banff Theatre Centre and Bishop's University. Michael Mawson was a professional theatre director and actor for over 30 years in theatres across the country. The funeral will be held in Kingston, Ontario at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2000, with a visitation prior on Thursday, October 26, 2000 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home, 49 Colborne Street. A gathering at Stratford is planned for November 6, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. at the Stratford Festival. A ceilidh is planned to take place in Toronto on February 1st, Michael birthday. Details to follow.
