Monica WRIGHT-ROBERTS Obituary
WRIGHT-ROBERTS, Monica
Canadian philanthropist, dynamic entrepreneur and independent mother of two, passed away Monday, March 11th, 2002, following a long a courageous fight with breast cancer. Monica was one of the founding members of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and the founder and chairman of the National Breast Cancer Fund. She was also the principal of Roberts Communications Group, Toronto. Monica was a tireless supporter of breast cancer causes and fought to raise awareness of the disease. She was an advocate and pioneer and one of the first individuals to cross the country speaking to patients, families and healthcare professionals at a time when few people were discussing the disease. Monica battled all the odds during her 13 years with breast cancer, to ensure her children's future and to make life better for women living with the disease. She was known for her remarkable enthusiasm, optimism and passion for life. Monica was involved with numerous charities including the Terry Fox Foundation and Toronto's Ronald McDonald House. She was an incredibly beautiful, vivacious woman who put everyone's needs before her own, including her many causes. Those who knew her were amazed by her strength. Monica's favourite biblical passage summed up her life's mission, ;All things work together for good (Romans, 8:28). Monica is fondly remembered by her many family and friends, and especially by her children Jody and Ryan, who, for the rest of their lives, will feel her presence every day in their hearts. A service will be held Friday, March 15th at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 277 Bloor Street East, Toronto. Visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service. Donations can be made to The Ryan and Jody Wright-Roberts Education Trust c/o Minden, Gross & Grafstein, attn. Joan Jung, 111 Richmond Street West, Suite 700, Toronto M5H 2H5.
