Mr. Kenney was my first ever French teacher in Grade 9 at Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, ON some 60 years ago. He used that opportunity to create, at that time, a revolutionary teaching program where we did not use text books and instead actually spoke French and built the language from scratch. I remember my first phrase "La vache nous dons le lait". I loved learning that way and thrived on his energy, teaching, and bushy hair. Unfortunately, in Grade 10 I was taught by the standard methodology. Text books, tests and Parisian pronunciation. It killed the language for me. I have thought of the brilliance of Mr. Kenney over the many years and never forgot him. To read about so much more to his life makes me feel he truly embraced all that he believed in. What an incredible and talented life.

"Dear Morgan -
You were the kindest, gentlest, sincerest person with the most vibrant, hypnotizing personality, and an artistic, creative mind! In some earlier times your sprouted an "Einsteinian" bushy hair-do - how fitting! You revolutionized the teaching and learning of French with your psychological and pedagogical acumen!
You were always so dedicated to students, teachers and friends, that I am honoured to have been one of your colleagues and friends!
MERCI, et au revoir, mon cher ami!"

I had the privilege of knowing Morgan when he organised & hosted the Petra Kenny Poetry Awards at Canada House in London where I worked for a number of years. His love of poetry and his encouragement of poets themselves was a force to be reckoned with, and this enthusiasm was very evident at the Awards itself and behind the scenes in all the work that went into organising the event both in the UK and Canada. Happy memories of a dedicated, gifted poet and a witty, generous man who will be remembered fondly by many

It is with tremendous sadness that I learned of Morgan's death. He was a dedicated and inspiring teacher for his students and his teaching colleagues alike, a thespian, creative poet, author, and friend to so many people across Canada and in the UK. In so many ways he was "larger than life". I am so grateful that our professional paths crossed over 50 years ago. Rest in peace, dear friend.

I had the good fortune of being in Morgan's classes in grades 10, 11, 12 and 13. He inspired me to study languages at university, and to become a language teacher. A great privilege for me was to be part of his Passeport Francais writing team. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Morgan was, in the first place, my teacher and would become a dear friend over the years. The impact he had on my life was profound and I believe that his influence helped develop my successful and happy life. The sparkle in his eye and the impish smile will remain in my mind but I shall miss his thoughtful letters. Good memories of our visit with he and Oz will help assuage our sadness.
