She was surrounded by her husband Russell, her sons Alex, Cameron and Ryan Barnes, sister Donna Brooks, and brother Duncan Alexander. Nancy was born in Winnipeg, MB on January 10, 1964. She attended the University of British Columbia and earned a degree in Nursing. At UBC, Nancy met Russell and they married on November 25, 1989. Together they lived in Vancouver, Terrace, BC and Prince George, BC, before settling in Calgary. Nancy's passion to help and care for people resulted in a proud 25 years career as an RN in Acute, Oncology and Community nursing. Nancy had a passion for many activities including cycling, golfing, swimming, and yoga, often in combination. She participated in half marathons, triathlons, and proudly wore the gold helmet signifying five rides in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Nancy was fortunate to travel throughout her life, starting as a teenager working as an au pair in Europe, continuing through many adventures with Russell. Nancy loved watching her boys play sports, walking her dogs, and time with many friends. Nancy was an important part of the Kidney Cancer Canada ('KCC') community. Nancy had a passion to better herself and the people around her. Through meditation, self-reflection, friends, and family, Nancy found inner peace. Her family leaned on her to be an ear that listens, an arrow that points, and a voice of reason. Nancy is also survived by five nieces: Elizabeth and Laura Alexander, and Madeline, Katherine, and Rebecca Brooks. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held in May.
