Nancy HALL Obituary

Nancy R. Hall (nee Richardson) August 29, 1940 - December 3, 2023 Educator Passed away peacefully at Humber River Hospital as a result of complications caused by Alzheimer's. Adored wife of Bill for 56 years, Nancy was predeceased by her parents Gwen and Lloyd Richardson. He was the Director of the Metro Toronto Children's Aid Society and she was a director in the Social Planning volunteer office of Metro Toronto. Nancy is survived by her sons Adam and Matthew, daughter-in-law Hannah Bang and granddaughters, Gaia and River. She is also survived by her sisters Gwen Richardson and Susie Wilson and their daughters Erin (Rick Andrews), Sarah, Caitlin and Emily. Sister in-law to Bruce Hall (Fiona MacFarlane), Joan Hall and Jane Slowikowski, aunt to Jason Hall (Paola Hall) and Lisa Hall, and great aunt to Evan, Lily, Ty and Sophia. Nancy was an avid traveler and conscientious English teacher at North Albion C.I. before she met Bill in 1966 at North Toronto C.I. where he taught History. They soon married and decided to work abroad first in the U.K. and then Switzerland where Matthew was born. Returning to Toronto to settle in Bloor West Village in 1972, Nancy soon had her second son, Adam. She went back to teaching in 1977 at Humewood House school for young mothers where she taught English and parenting for 20 years. Upon retirement she and Bill travelled extensively over the years to nearly 60 countries for cultural experiences and natural wonders either with tour groups like Quest, or on their own. Nancy loved going to the Canadian Opera Company productions, and for more than a decade after retiring she facilitated a very popular poetry workshop at the Academy for Lifelong Learning. She had strong feelings about the protection of nature, and her parents altruism inspired Nancy's passion for teaching. Nancy loved walking by the Humber River and found billowing clouds very appealing. The family would like to thank the staff at the memory floor of Scarlett Heights Seniors Residence, the staff at unit 13E of Humber River Health and Dr. S. Rubenzahl for their care for our beautiful, intelligent, independent and compassionate Nancy. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. a Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to charities dear to Nancy in her name - Ecojustice, Médecins Sans Frontières or Ontario Nature. All my sympathy, Bill. Nancy was a wonderful person. I particularly remember you and Nancy hosting an Academy end-of-season party at your home each year. This will be a hard adjustment, but keep up your spirits as best you can.
