NANCY RICHARDSON Obituary

Nancy Joan Richardson was born in Peoria, Illinois, on July 3, 1934, and died peacefully in Ottawa on September 18, 2025. Nancy was a force to be reckoned with. She had a chin-up-carry-on approach to challenges and loss in her life that was something to behold. She was fiercely loyal and loving to her close friends. She avidly followed world events and the Canadian political scene and was not shy about sharing her thoughts. She loved adventure and together with her beloved husband, Henry, and their children lived all over the world, including multi-year stints in Kuala Lumpur, Nairobi, Havana, and London before settling back in Ottawa. Nancy loved colour and art in her life. She was never afraid of a bold red or blue and that love expressed itself in her clothes, but also through Fine Arts courses at the University of Manitoba and later in London, a 20-year stint as a docent at the National Gallery and an eclectic collection that covered all of the walls of her house. Hers was a home filled with a wonderfully supportive group of friends, good food, and interesting conversation. Above all, Nancy loved, and was loved by, her family and will be missed terribly by her three surviving children, Paul (Lynda), Sarah, and Harriet (Jason); and her grandchildren, Maddy, Henry, and Kate.

I feel so fortunate to have known your mother. She was thoughtful, intelligent, and carried herself with such warmth and kindness. Her love for her family was always evident and I know she was so proud of her children and grandchildren. My heart is with you all during this time of loss.

Sarah,
My condolences to you and Paul and Harriet.
Your mom left a mark on a lot of people including my mom. These women were of an era, charging ahead with gusto and making life an adventure with love for all. The obituary is a beautiful tribute to your mom.

My sympathies and best wishes to you.
Nicky
