NEIL BURTON BRYSON
(1929 – 2012)
B.A.Sc. (Mech. Eng.), M.A.Sc., Ph.D. (Metallurgy), P.Eng.
Loving husband to Ruth Pidgeon for more than 56 years, devoted and beloved father to Neil Campbell (and Elizabeth Bucci) and much-adored grandfather of Landon, Neil died June 6, 2012 at his Wolfe Island home overlooking the St. Lawrence River with Ruthie and his Cairn terrier, Miss Jean Brodie, at his side. He died of mesothelioma after declining all but palliative treatment. He died with courage, even gallantry, in the face of this awful disease.
  Neil was an engineer extraordinaire, publisher of papers and holder of patents in the field of direct chill casting of aluminium. He loved solving engineering problems of all kinds, whether designing and building a cabin on a cliff, restoring a classic wooden sailboat or tuning a set of triple Weber carburetors on a vintage V-12 motor.
  Son of the late Ray Neil Bryson and Florence Kilbourn; predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth, and his brother, Robert; survived by his brother David (and Anne Gilmour) and by many Kilbourn and Stewart cousins.
  The family is grateful for the care and kindness provided by the doctors and nurses who treated him (especially Dr. Natalie Kondor of the palliative care unit at Kingston General Hospital and St. Elizabeth's nurse Kim). Special thanks to the wonderful network of neighbours and friends on Wolfe Island who shopped, dog-walked and were there for us.
  Neil was a truly gentle man and a gentleman, kind and loving always. While his family and many friends will miss him, they will also remember fondly a life filled with decency, enthusiasm, goodness and love.
  At Neil's request, there will be no visitation or funeral, only a family interment service.
  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston would be appreciated.
