To Julian, Josie and your families, I just discovered that Ann had died. Please accept my condolences. I knew Ann in Cape Town and shared a flat with her in Rondebosch for a short while. We kept in touch from time to time in Canada where I have lived too since 1968. Here is my email address: [email protected]. We had a wonderful long telephone call late in 2023 but I was shocked to find her obituary. She was a terrific artist and person whom I remember very fondly indeed. Margaret Hughes. Kingston ON

Ann is and always will be, in my thoughts. She mentored me in Tapestry weaving. I am forever grateful to Ann, for the time, energy, encouragement, that she invested, in me (a beginner tapestry weaver, at the time). Ann's frankness, caught me off guard, at the beginning of our, time together. It turned out to be, one of the most valuable things, in my learning process! I am so fortunate, that Ann, was and is, in my life!

Ann has always stayed in my thoughts since she taught tapestry at Monash Uni all that time ago in Melbourne Australia! What a life she has had! Wonderful lady.

Ann was an inspirational teacher and friend. I was fortunate to be one of her students in that inaugural year at Monash University when she established Tapestry as a subject in the Fine Arts degree. Ann was generous with her knowledge, her time and resources. I´ll always remember her thoughtfulness in buying tickets to Nelson Mandela´s Appeal to Melbourne for my sister and me to attend with her. She always spoke lovingly of her family. I am glad to have had her in my life.

I had not seen Ann for quite some time but knew her when we both lived in Saskatoon and were active in the art community there. I knew her to be always curious, experimental and thoughtful as an artist and an intellectual. I treasure the time I did spend with her in Saskatchewan and later in the 2000s on a quick visit to Hornby Island to see her beloved cottage and spend some time with both her and her husband John. They both contributed a lot to the intellectual and aesthetic life of Canada and were living proof of the benefits of having a welcoming immigration system here.
In fond remembrance of them both. My condolences to their children.

Ann was always interesting to talk and listen to. She had a keen mind and tremendous artistic insight. I am so happy that I have one of her paintings on my wall. It makes me smile whenever I look at. I will miss you Ann

Ann was a generous soul.
She started a Seawright Rd party gathering which still exists today.
May her memory abide.

Ann will be missed here on Hornby Island. She contributed not only to the art scene but also by community building, buying memberships and going to AGM´s of most island organizations. Most of all, she was a good friend to those who crossed her path. We shall miss her.
