Nicolina Giovanna Maria GLEASURE

Nicolina GLEASURE Obituary

GLEASURE, Nicolina Giovanna Maria (née Lembo)
Born November 25, 1931, in Verona, Italy; died July 10, 2001, in Kelowna, B.C. After a nine-year battle with cancer, our beloved Nicolina is finally at peace. She leaves behind to mourn her passing her husband of 43 years Richard (;Dick), daughter Fiorenza (husband Stephen Hawryluk), sons Richard (wife Donna Marie Fligg) and Anthony (wife Lillian Ferguson Black). Nicolina was the adored Nonna of Stephanie, Elizabeth, Shauna, Islay, Joseph and Iain. She was predeceased by her son Adam and her foster daughter Carol LaRose Viola. Nicolina is survived by her brother Pino Lembo (wife Chiara Confalonieri) of Monza, Italy. She will be deeply missed by many relatives and friends throughout Canada and in Italy, Ireland, U.K., U.S.A. and New Zealand. In her six years in the Okanagan Valley she had made many friends and was very grateful for their support and caring. Her family are deeply appreciative of the outstanding care she received from the staff and volunteers of the Cancer Centre of the Southern Interior and Kelowna General Hospital. Formerly of Weston, Ontario, Nicolina taught for many years at Toronto Montessori School in Thornhill. She later studied and lectured at the American Montessori Institute in Washington, D.C. and at the Centro Internationale di Studi Montessoriani in Bergamo, Italy. Nicolina and Dick retired to Westbank, B.C. in 1995. Nicolina will be remembered for her love of learning, her generous support of many charitable causes, her devotion to her family and her encyclopedic knowledge of its history, her quiet but unwavering faith, and her zest for life. In accordance with Nicolina's wishes, her body will be cremated. A Funeral Mass will be held at our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Westbank on July 13, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at a later date in the family plot in Weston. In lieu of flowers, Nicolina would prefer that those wishing to honour her memory perform an act of kindness for a child: teach a new skill, tell a story, encourage a sense of wonder for the natural world.
