Nina SUTTIE Obituary
Nina Suttie
Nina Suttie 1914 - 2009 The family of Nina Suttie announces her passing on January 9th. She will be remembered with love by her children, Peter and his wife Judy, and Wendy Miske and her husband, Ray. She was a much loved and very special 'Gran' to Ian Suttie and Julie Brough, Paul Suttie and Helen Chambers, Lynn and Jon Woeller, Michael and Karen Miske, Brian and Stephanie Miske, and Nancy Suttie. As a cherished great-grandmother, she was 'Dancing Gran' to Megan and Thomas Suttie, and 'G.G.' to Matthew and Erin Woeller, Ben and Spencer Miske, and Kate and Sam Miske. She will be fondly remembered by her brother, Dick, and his wife, Molly.
Nina was predeceased in 1998 by her husband, Tom, with whom she shared almost 60 years of a wonderful partnership. Her brother, David, also predeceased her.
Nina lived a full and happy life. As a young wife and mother, she left family and friends behind in England as her husband came to a job in Canada. She quickly adapted to her new country, becoming a Canadian citizen at the earliest opportunity. She enjoyed her many and busy years of volunteering as a visitor and driver for CNIB, as a Brown Owl and a Commissioner for the Girl Guide movement, as a visitor and escort to the girls at Grandview Training School, as a classroom assistant, and as a swimming teacher with the mentally handicapped. She played golf, curling, and bridge with skill and enthusiasm, and she valued the many friends with whom she shared these and other activities. She cherished her role as a very involved grandmother and great- grandmother.
Nina will be remembered for her positive nature, for her thoughtfulness and kindness, for her wonderful ability to listen, for her generosity, and for her willingness to always have time to give to family and friends. Even as dementia robbed her of her memory, she was happy to see people and appreciative of all who helped her, including the caring and cheerful staff of St. Andrew's Terraces to whom her family is most grateful.
A memorial service to celebrate Nina's life will be held at Coutts Funeral Home (519-621-1650) at 96 St. Andrew's St. in Cambridge on Friday, January 16th at 11:00am. A reception will follow.
If desired, memorial tributes to the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation (519-624-8972) directed to the Nina Suttie Children's Camp Scholarship Fund would have pleased her.
'Our memories will keep her alive in our hearts forever.'
