Nora RAINBOTH Obituary

It is with great sadness and disbelief we announce the passing of our beloved Nora (Nonie, Nodes) after a valiant struggle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents, Ted and Nora (O'Connor), and brothers Dan and Jim. Nora is survived by her beloved partner of 42 years Paul (Pugh), her sisters-in-law Elaine, Lynda, Gwyneth, Joanne, brother-in-law Ken, nephew William (Simone), nieces Laura (Shawn), Sarah (Matthew), and Holly (Dan). Beloved great aunt to Samantha, William, Laura, Grace, Olivia and Dominic. Nora was raised in Ottawa but moved to Montreal and started her business career in the computing centre at McGill University. From the computing centre Nora became one of the original partners of FRI Corp. where she gained her skills in investment technology. After a move to Toronto where she re-connected with Paul, and the sale of FRI, Nora transferred her investment technology skills to the brokerage industry and worked for a number of big banks before retiring in 2004. In retirement Nora's first project was liaising with the contractor who was building a new house for Nora and Paul on their 25-acre property in Adjala, Simcoe County. 20 happy years followed in Adjala for Nora and Paul as they made new friends, entertained old friends, enjoyed their love of nature, and reveled in their rural environment. This enjoyment was enhanced by their beloved black standard poodles, Clouseau, C2 and currently Orso. Nora, besides being a kind loving soul who made lasting friends easily and gave more than she asked for, was an avid reader, a rugby player, a nature buff, a turtle saviour, a star gazer, an art lover and an enthusiastic traveler. Nora and Paul enjoyed their trips to Cape Cod, Portugal, Greece, Charlevoix, France, the Caribbean and their special times in Italy. Nora's illness was lessened by the fine care given by the oncology team at the Ottawa Hospital. Special thanks to Drs. Wheatly-Price, McCrae, Condon, Waters and to Carlos the super Barcelona fan. Nora's passing will leave an emptiness in all our lives. A visitation will be held at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa on Tuesday, May 28th from 1:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service, which will be held in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception. In Nora's memory please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Charity of Your Choice. Condolences and Memories may be shared at www.capitalmemorial.ca

although our relationship was short Nora was always so pleasant and pleased to hear from me regardless of the content of a message! She was a genuinely kind soul with a good sense of humour and I am sorry we never got to have that dinner at The Shore Club! I know she will be missed.

I remember Nora very well. I worked at McGill's Computing Centre starting in 1967 and going on for 40 years. For most of that time, I was in charge of the group that developed the MUSIC/SP software that allowed remote users to connect to the central computer via telephone lines. That facilitated the development of the FRI software by McGill's Faculty of Management. As developers of MUSIC, we needed access to the computers during off hours, such as after midnight, so we ate supper at various restaurants. That is where we met up with Nora, who joined us for supper since sometimes she worked the night shift as a computer operator. She also joined us in activities at staff country places. Perhaps that instilled in her the love of the great outdoors.
