Norah SMITH Obituary

(Frost/Jupp) September 27, 1940 - August 22, 2024 Norah Stewart Smith, of Toronto, passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital. Born in Noranda, PQ, Canada, devoted daughter of Fred and Mary Smith; elder sister of Stewart Smith and Janet Broadley. Wife of Alex Jupp and Jack Frost. Mother of five, proud grandmother of 13, and great-grandmother of five. Norah studied arts and social work at Queens University and the University of Western Australia before a long, dedicated career in social work. Forever chasing the sun, Norah lived in Toronto, Stratford, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Mexico, but her spiritual home was always Frere (Fairy) Lake, Ontario. Norah embraced life! A lover of travel, avid lifelong learning, and swimming, a voracious reader and art, theatre and music enthusiast. She was vivacious, endlessly curious with an inquiring mind, and had a marvelous sense of humour. Norah leaves a legacy of great friendships worldwide, and was a passionate volunteer for Tafelmusik. We wish to thank the wonderful staff of Briton House for the kindness, care and compassion provided for her last years. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Norah's Life will be held on Saturday, September 7th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. West, Toronto. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation, and sincerely appreciated by the family.

Norah and I were both friends from childhood...Noranda Quebec...lots in common....lovely memories of dinners together at the Demorest´s and in Stratford at Arden park Hotel with her Alex and my Ab...and wee doggie! Then frequent visits at tafflemusic concerts where she frequently volunteered...had a wonderful telephone visit just a week prior to her leaving us...An amazing lady who was always "giving" to the world..shall never forget her...Mary Anne Miller-Carr

Norah was one week older than me. We were born in the Youville Hospital in Noranda Quebec. Our mothers were in the hospital together so there is a possibility that Norah and I were side by side in the Nursery. That is were a beautiful friend ship started.
We maintained our friendship through the years at birthday parties, school and especially at our cottages in New Liskeard.
She was a very special friend. I will miss her.
My deepest condolences to all of the family.

I had the privilege of working with Norah, and as only an Adoption worker would do, when she had a kitten she could not keep she placed a notice for Adoption at work and I became the happy forever home for Murphy.
My deepest condolences to her family, she was a wonderful kind, thoughtful woman.

As you gather to share your memories of my dear friend Norah, I would like to give you one of my favourites. Norah and Alex´s wedding took place in a lovely little town, in a beautiful little church on a perfect day. Many of you were there, I´m sure. I feel it marked the possibility of their happy Stratford years. Rest in peace Norah, you have earned it. I miss you but I will always remember you with love.
Anne.
