Norine MENDELL Obituary

NORINE MENDELL Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Norine Mendell, passed away peacefully in Vancouver on Friday, May 12, 2023, with her devoted husband David and some of her dearest people by her side. She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Levenstone; and her parents: Bernard 'Bernie' and Sarah 'Surkie' Levenstone. She is missed dearly by her husband, David; daughter, Carrie (Campbell) of Waiheke Island, NZ.; daughter, Joanna (Trevor); and grandson, Marlo, of Smithers; brother, Stan (Lois) of Ottawa; and so many friends and family, far and wide. She excelled at listening to and honouring herself as she navigated life's challenges with unparalleled courage and strength. Her generosity of spirit, empathy, and compassion touched the lives of so many. Norine will forever be a source of light, inspiration, and wisdom for her treasured and lifelong friendships and a second mother and confidant to many. She enjoyed the rituals of Qualicum Beach trips, her Pasley Island ladies, the Wednesday coffee group, her yoga and meditation family, and her cherished LAFF book club of 20+ years. Norine's palate was as refined for great food as it was for keeping great company. We want to thank Dr. Yvette Drew and her staff at BCCA, Drs. Ridley, Chan, and Rawson, community nurse Leslie Seitz, the amazing staff of caregivers at St. John Hospice, and the MAiD team of Pascale, Sukhi and Lisa. A special thank you to Dr. Poul Sorenson for his sage advice. Norine would want you to give to your charity of choice and light a candle and think of her. There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday.

Norine was a special friend to so many of us, and I am truly blessed that Norine and I shared a deep and caring friendship for more than 30 years. Wise, compassionate, kind are just a few words to describe Norine. She had a terrific sense of humour, always making me laugh. What will forever remain in my memory as I think about her in the days and years ahead, are the many ways she showed us how to continually grow and evolve to become the very best we can be. Norine raised the bar in being mindful and purposeful in how she lived her life - a life that was admirably "well-lived". May you, David, Carrie, and Joanna take solace in knowing how much she was loved.

Life´s journey leads us down roads and up mountains and across oceans. While we are on this journey it´s not the places you go but the people you meet. For me Norine was one of these people who made an impact from her love and care of her family and friends to he gentleness and compassion for others. I feel blessed that I shared a part of my journey in her presence. She will forever live on in my heart and my love and condolences I send to her wonderful loving family. My dear friend David I send my blessings and love for you in this difficult and sad time. Look for the sun as it will always shine on you Mate.
