NORMAN "DOUGLAS" McRAE obituary

NORMAN McRAE Obituary

(1944 - 2026) In loving memory of Douglas McRae, who passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16th, at the age of 81, after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. Doug kept active and engaged throughout the progression of these diseases. He was never a burden, there was never a complaint. He made peace with life's end, allowing for closure and goodbyes. Born in Montreal in 1944, Doug graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce, The American College of Insurance and is an Associate of the Insurance Institute of Canada. Following in the footsteps of his father, first as a non-marine broker and then for 35 years as a marine underwriter, Doug served on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters (CBMU) and the Canadian Maritime Law Association (CMLA) working on joint projects to update Canadian maritime law. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Andrea de Gosztonyi; his son, Matthew McRae; and his daughter-in-law, Andrelle Caron; along with family and friends. Doug lived an active and fulfilling life. We would like to thank Dr. Wein, Dr. Basile and St. Mary's Hospital for their outstanding care and support. A celebration will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Complexe Funéraire Belvédère, 22025 TransCanada Highway, Senneville, Quebec H9X 0B2. Visitation from 1 p.m., Celebration of Life at 3 p.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson's Canada or a charity of your choice.

Andrea,Matthew and Andrelle..I was so very, very sorry to read about the loss of your husband, your father, your father- in- law.
I knew Doug from a very long time ago, in the 70's when we were classmates at Laval University. We were both there brushing up on our French during the Pierre Trudeau years.
Doug was a truly good man, a dedicated student, a supportive colleague and a compassionate friend. He was generous and kind and a gentleman in every sense of the word.
As often happens, Doug and I lost touch over the years and I had no idea he was ill.
Again, please accept my sincere condolences. I am so very sorry.
