OLAV JENSEN Obituary

OLAV JENSEN (Oct. 31, 1947 - May 26, 2005) Ole passed away peacefully at home Thursday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. surrounded by loving friends and family. Ole will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Shirley; their two sons, Ryan and Craig; his sister-in-law, Rika; her two children, Shannon and Shaun; his wife's parents, Shirley and Al Salo. Also mourning his loss are his mother Anna Jensen, sister Hannah, two brothers Dan and Tim and their families. Ole was predeceased by his father, Henry Jensen. Ole loved life and especially the outdoors. He derived his greatest pleasure from being in his boat on the water, as opposed to being in the water on the golf course. He had many great days on the mountains with his closest friends and family. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, son, friend, colleague and hero. He contributed to his community as soccer and baseball coach, assistant scout leader, member of the B.C. Science Council, active member of Acetech and board member for ALS Society. Ole was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in May 2003. Since that time he has faced each day with courage, wisdom, and a willing sense of humour. He consistently used his great problem solving skills. During these past difficult months he has deservedly won the devotion and respect of two very special Angels, Sherri and Alynn. They exemplify intelligence, commitment and caring. Both women went far beyond what is expected and became Ole's lifelines and affectionate companions and friends. We send our deepest gratitude to these two women who have become so much a part of our lives. We also want to thank so many dear friends who shared this painful journey. They made Ole a priority in their lives and dedicated their time and their presence to supporting Ole through each stage. These special people kept Ole a part of life and brought laughter and love to our home and family. A Celebration of Life will be held at the West Vancouver Yacht Club on June 25 at 4:30 p.m. If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of B.C. in honour of Ole Jensen.
