OLGA PHILIP Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Olga Mary Philip, announce her passing on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the age of 85, at her home - Chartwell, Sumach Place, in Toronto. Olga was born in Simcoe, Ontario, on August 1, 1939, to her parents, Geza Philip and Eszter Philip (née Vecsi). After working at several jobs in Toronto, she decided quickly that "Art" was going to be her destination. She enrolled as a student at the Ontario College of Art. Soon afterwards, she started teaching. She taught printmaking, especially woodblock printing, which she herself loved to do. She also studied about artists of the past, through books she purchased, technical, and any information she could absorb to strengthen her own art works. She even learned how to make paper to use in her own art. She had a great impact on many of her students even after their graduation. She had in more recent years gotten interested in photography, using those pictures to do her water colour works. She was most proud of the fact that she kept doing her own art works throughout her career and into her retirement. She is survived by sister, Irene Ratch (Gerald); brother, Andy Philip; nephews, Patrick Ratch (late Rose) and Brad Ratch; and great-niece, Emily Ratch; and predeceased by her loving partner, Joe Motta. Olga is also survived by many friends that she was delighted in having. Relatives, friends, and neighbours are invited to gather with the family for public visitation and service July 5, 2025, 1 p.m., at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, ON M4X 1K5. In lieu of flowers, a donation the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated or a Charity of Your Choice.

I am so sorry to hear about Olga's passing. I remember her as being very helpful and knowledgeable in the OCA printshop, when I was a student there. She had alot of patience to deal with us art students, and always with a smile. I last saw her when she had a show at GAS, I am a printmaker and sculptor, and Olga really helped me alot with printmaking. I am sure she left her mark on many students, myself included, I will always fondly remember her. May she rest in peace.

Our love and sympathies to Pat, Emily, Irene, Gerald, Brad and Andy. Rose often spoke of Aunt Olga with appreciation and pride. She has touched many lives in a positive way. At Rose´s funeral, her eulogy painted her own palette of intelligence, caring, kindness and strength. God bless all the Ratch and Philip family.
