OLGA MARY PHILIP

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Olga Mary Philip, announce her passing on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the age of 85, at her home - Chartwell, Sumach Place, in Toronto. Olga was born in Simcoe, Ontario, on August 1, 1939, to her parents, Geza Philip and Eszter Philip (née Vecsi). After working at several jobs in Toronto, she decided quickly that "Art" was going to be her destination. She enrolled as a student at the Ontario College of Art. Soon afterwards, she started teaching. She taught printmaking, especially woodblock printing, which she herself loved to do. She also studied about artists of the past, through books she purchased, technical, and any information she could absorb to strengthen her own art works. She even learned how to make paper to use in her own art. She had a great impact on many of her students even after their graduation. She had in more recent years gotten interested in photography, using those pictures to do her water colour works. She was most proud of the fact that she kept doing her own art works throughout her career and into her retirement. She is survived by sister, Irene Ratch (Gerald); brother, Andy Philip; nephews, Patrick Ratch (late Rose) and Brad Ratch; and great-niece, Emily Ratch; and predeceased by her loving partner, Joe Motta. Olga is also survived by many friends that she was delighted in having. Relatives, friends, and neighbours are invited to gather with the family for public visitation and service July 5, 2025, 1 p.m., at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, ON M4X 1K5.
