(October 18, 1935 – August 25, 2025) Oriel Hoefenmayer (née Ashwell) passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario. Oriel was born in England to the daughter of the late Thomas Geoffrey Lyon Ashwell and Evelyn Muriel Drabble. Loving wife of her predeceased husband, Gerhard Erich Franz Alexius Hoefenmayer. She will be greatly missed by her children, Rupert (Catherine), Daniel (Regina), and Theresa. She is survived by her loving sister, Lavender McMillan (the late Colin L.F. McMillan). Blessed by wonderful grandchildren, Noel and Justin, Sebastian, Christian, and Philip, Oliver and Emily. Also, let us not forget her faithful four-legged companion, Bella. All her friends, many with whom she had played bridge, will greatly miss her. She developed precious friendships that spanned decades. These friends will, without doubt, smile in remembrance of her. She had a passion for English Cocker Spaniels, playing cards, spending time at the cottage, and gardening. With her green thumb, Oriel cultivated and cared for gardens teeming with life and colour. She was a long-time member of the Toronto Cricket Club and was a lifetime member of the Art Gallery of Ontario. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to the Reynolds Funeral Home - Turner Chapel in Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada. Messages of condolence can be made at
