(May 13, 1936 – January 8, 2026) It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of Owen James Miller. Owen is survived by his beloved long-time partner Clarys Tirel, sons Christopher (Vanessa), Peter (Shannon), grandchildren Juliette, Owen, Jesse and Andrew, stepchildren Richard Ramez and Michelle Ramez, and brother Peter (Christine) in New Zealand. Owen was born and raised in Auckland New Zealand where his heart and soul reside. After completing his doctoral studies at the University of Strasbourg in France, he emigrated to Toronto Canada in 1967 where for the next 35 years he was a professor of French and Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto. To him, the value of education was fundamental, and he freely shared his knowledge to make those around him better students and better people. He was a dedicated and passionate educator who loved a good debate. Owen was a loving and attentive partner, father and grandfather. He was a humble, thoughtful and gracious man. He passed away peacefully with grace and gratitude shrouded in the love of his family. We will all miss him dearly.
