Pascal CALARCO Obituary



CALARCO, Pascal Jerome

In his 90th year, Pascal died
peacefully on April 7, 2016,
surrounded by family. Much
loved father of Ruthie of
Toronto, Mary (Ian Hurlbut) of
Guelph and Pascal Vincent (Mary
Horman) of Kitchener. Pascal
was a proud grandfather and
papa to Christina, PJ, Benjamin,
Marley and Blythe.
   Born and raised in Kitchener,
Pascal was a graduate of
Assumption College University
of Windsor, the Ontario College
of Education and the Faculty of
Library & Information Science,
University of Toronto. In his
youth, he served with the
Canadian Army in Europe during
World War II, as part of the the
Essex Scottish Regiment.
   A lifelong advocate of learning
and education, Pascal began his
career teaching high school in
Kirkland Lake, Cornwall, North
York, Cambridge and Kitchener
He later left the classroom to
serve with the Ontario Ministry
of Education, in both Waterloo
and at the Ministry head offices
in Toronto.
   Pascal bred and showed
champion Welsh Terriers and
served as the President of the
Welsh Terrier Association of
Canada. He was also active in the
Canadian Library Association,
the Ontario Library Association
and the Ontario Education
Association. He was a spiritual
man who was passionate about
his family, gardening, literature
and music. He had a quiet sense
of humor and a compassionate
nature, generously sharing what
he had with those in need.
   Pascal was predeceased by the
love of his life, wife, Marcella
(nee Wittig). Also predeceased
by his parents, Vincent Calarco
and Marcella Bonofski. Brother
of the late Domenic Michael
Calarco of Toronto, late Teresa
Buswell of Montreal and Rosario
(Roy) of Kitchener and by Mary
Margaret (Marie) (Mrs. Dr. Alex
Carruthers) of Minneapolis,
Minnesota. Pascal is survived by
his younger sister, Marcella (Mrs
Albert Peplow) of Waterloo and
numerous nieces and nephews.
   Many thanks to the staff at
Luther Village (Kitchener), St
Joseph Health Centre (Guelph)
and Guelph General Hospital for
their care and support.
   Visitation will be held at Henry
Walser Funeral Home, 507
Frederick St., Kitchener,
519-749-8467, on Monday from
2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m
with prayers at 3:45 p.m.
   The Funeral Mass will be held at
St. Anne's Roman Catholic
Church, 268 East Ave., Kitchener
on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at
10:00 a.m. Interment Woodland
Cemetery. A reception will
follow in the church hall.

be made to the Heart & Stroke
