CRONIN, R.F. Patrick, M.D., F.R.C.P.
Born September 1, 1926 in London, England. Passed away quietly January 13, in Montreux, Switzerland with his beloved wife by his side. The son of doctor-turned-novelist A.J. Cronin and his physician wife, May, Pat was raised in London & Greenwich, Ct. He attended Princeton University and served in World War II with the R.C.A.F. and the British Army. He obtained his medical degree in 1953 from McGill University and his MSc in 1960. In 1954, he married Shirley-Gian Robertson and together they raised three children. Pat practiced cardiology and was affiliated with the Montreal General Hospital. He was a member of the McGill Faculty of Medicine from 1959-1984 and served as Associate Dean and Dean of Medicine at McGill from 1969-1977, and continued as Professor of Medicine until 1984. He served as President of the Graduates' Society and served as a Governor of the University. Throughout his career he strived to help developing countries improve their medical & nursing education programs working in conjunction with CIDA in Kenya, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Ethiopia, Pakistan & Tunisia. After leaving Montreal, Pat served as a Medical Consultant to the Aga Khan Health Services and was Director, Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi. Pat was known for his intelligence, his generosity and his wonderfully dry sense of humour. He is survived by his loving wife Sis, son David (Amelie), daughters Diana (Michael Platz) and Daphne; and five grandchildren, Christine, Andrew, Nicholas, Julia and Maximilian. Also by his brothers, Vincent (Chantal) and Andrew (Anne) and their families; and his brother- in-law Ken (Sheila) and their family. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank his caregivers in Florida and Switzerland for their devotion throughout his challenge with Alzheimer's Disease. Funeral services and burial to take place in Montreux, Switzerland. A memorial service will be held in Montreal in the spring.
