Paul COREY Obituary

PAUL COREY January 3, 1941 - October 29, 2022 Paul's big beautiful heart stopped beating on Saturday night, leaving us to marvel how he lived life fully up to the last minute. Wife, Mary, is missing her daily "have I told you lately". Julie, Jenny and Brennan had the best dad ever. Mother, Jeanette (Deveaux) Corey; and mother- in-law, Mary (Brennan) Keenan, doted on Paul, as he did them. Genny, Liam, Nicholas, Isabella and Kaleigha will have to share their memorable times with grandpa; so new great- grandson, Kaladin will know him too. Every member of Paul's extended families has a different story of how he affected them. He truly cared for everyone in his ever- growing circle of special people. There has never been a professor who loved his work more. He retired from the University of Toronto, after more than 50 years inspiring students to embrace Biostatistics, but kept up with some pet projects to the end. Feel free to donate in Paul's name to CF Canada, Jessies Shelters, Anne Marie D'Amico Foundation, MSF, or some needy person on the street. We will come together at a private family gathering at Paul's forever home on Dunedin on November 12. Please gather with loved ones wherever you are to laugh, cry, remember and celebrate the one and only Paul Corey.

Such a great man! I learnt Professor Corey through Biostatistics program at DLSPH, University of Toronto, and I am proud that our program had him as a loving and caring professor, a memorable leading member.

My sincere condolences to Mary and all of Paul's wonderful family. As one of Shelley's (self-declared) group of favourite students, I can attest that he was appreciated for his brilliance and tenacity, and at least equally for his caring and compassionate nature. Paul made the world a better place.

Paul got involved in the early 80's with the indoor and outdoor respiratory pollutants with Irv Broder and Fran Silverman and many others at the Gage Research Institute. He was always engaging, and demystified Biostatistics for his co-researchers. We had numerous publications which helped somewhat with public policy in Canada. He will rest in peace as he contributed to many lives

Paul was a wonderful colleague - he was always so upbeat and personable and engaged. We were at opposite ends of the research methodology spectrum (I work with non-numeric data) but he was always interested in me and my field. He was a warm and gentle part of the school of public health; I will always remember him.

We have many fond memories of Paul and Mary from our years in Toronto in the 1970s and at family gatherings in the years that followed. He was truly a special guy. Our sincere condolences to Mary and to Julie and Brennan and their families.

Paul was my biostatistics professor. I will never forget how passionate he was about the subject, how he would come to class so excited to talk to us about something he had read, or a new angle on a question someone had had. He cared so deeply for his students. I am so grateful for what he taught me and the example that he set. Sending my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

Most sincere sympathy to the Corey family and all those who loved and respected Paul Corey. Our son, Paul, was fortunate to have Paul Corey as a teacher and mentor. Paul Corey took such delight in his students´ successes. He was a gift to his family, the University of Toronto and to our community at large.

Paul and Mary have been friends with my wife Cheryl and me for over 40 years. I met Paul as a masters student and along with David Andrews, he inspired me to embark on a career in Statistics. He was a generous and loving person, who always seemed to be laughing or smiling. He loved to tell stories and his infectious zeal rubbed off on everyone who knew him.

We will all miss Paul so much. He was a wonderful human. I´ve included a couple of pictures of his "favourite PhD students" (circa 2011). We like to think we were. I do know he was our favourite professor. Sending our condolences to Mary and the Corey family. What a loss.

My brother was Pauls's son-in-law, and our parents, Ruth and Terry, were great friends of Paul and Mary.
I saw them at many family gatherings over the years and always looked forward to seeing Paul. He was always smiling, always engaging. You were comfortable telling him anything. His interest was genuine and so too his desire to remedy, help or just join in a laugh.
Deb and I send our love and condolences to all his family. Paul was a great man.

It is difficult to comprehend what life will be like without Paul in it. He would come and play the piano at our house, and I am positive that it danced along with the music he played. Mary, Julie and Brennan, he will be forever missed.
