Paul James Edgar GREEN

Paul James Edgar GREEN obituary

Paul GREEN Obituary

Peacefully, at home in Toronto on May 2, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer, in his 77th year. A lifelong subscriber to many publications, Paul was well informed, knowledgeable, good-natured and upbeat. He leaves his beloved wife of 37 years, Mari Lise Stonehouse; his son, Spencer (Ksenia); his sister, Kathy Scobie (Mark) in St. Catharines; his brother, Dennis (Sharon Kennedy) in Trenton; his nephew, Drew Scobie (Diana) and their children, Gwyneth and Ben; and cousins in Canada and the US. Paul was born December 4, 1947, in St. Catharines to Bob and June Green. Spending the '60s studying at university in Toronto while staying at the Campus Co-op, he graduated from the University of Toronto in 1970. Shortly thereafter, he formed Solstice Publishing and continued the publication of Ski Canada magazine for more than 50 years. Surviving early staffing changes from the challenging move from Maclean Hunter and the ongoing transition from the print media to the digital world, Paul recently sold Ski Canada due to health concerns. A popular feature of Ski Canada, and a chance to escape the office, was the annual Ski Canada test. Spanning decades, the test brought a volunteer group of expert skiers together to evaluate the latest ski equipment. Staying at beautiful, host ski resorts across Canada, enduring whatever snow conditions prevailed, it was a happy time on the ski hill. He will be greatly missed by his golf friends, the Ski Canada crew, the staff at Mari Lise's pottery shop, Clay Design, and by his family and friends at the cottage on Twelve Mile Lake in Haliburton. A celebration of life is planned for the summer.

I know this is late but I am so sorry to find out that my child hood friend from St Catharines has passed away. We grew up together.

I have fond memories of my next door neighbour and school chum. Always felt that Paul would end up doing something very different from the asperations of the rest of us. He was very successful doing something that he
enjoyed. Paul was not without his mischievous sense of humour, teasing "Jane" as she joined us on our walks to Grantham High. Condolences to the family and especially to Dennis and Kathy.

Paul and I worked together at Maclean Hunter in the Special Interest Magazine Group. Wonderful individual to work with and always took a positive approach to life and his job. Very professional. Although I had not seen him in many years, I remember him very fondly. Please except my sincere sympathy for his loss.
