DR. PAUL HAZELL

December 2, 1948 - April 2, 2025 It is with great love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Paul MacPherson Hazell. Born in Stratford, Ontario, Paul was the son of Mary Gladys and Howard Cecil Hazell (both deceased); and brother to Lyn Johnson (Larry), Barb Loosemore (John), and Ruth Robertson (Ian). Paul was a devoted husband to Catherine Ann Hazell, whom he married in 1974. He was a proud father to Megan (Anil Patel), Jodi (the late Sean Bagshaw), Martha (Adam Hewitt), and Emily (Andrew Clarke); and grandfather to Ben, Maddy, Andrew, Rose, and Foster. He cherished his family above all else. Paul graduated from medical school in 1972 and went on to serve as a dedicated family physician in Port Hope, Ontario, for 46 years. Known for his kindness, warmth and calm presence, he was beloved by patients and colleagues alike. As Chief of Staff at Port Hope Hospital for many years, he worked tirelessly to ensure compassionate, quality care in his community. He was also instrumental in the planning and expansion of the Port Hope Medical Centre, where he maintained his long-standing practice. He took great pride in working alongside his close colleagues to build a strong, community-based approach to care. Outside of work, Paul loved nothing more than being at home with a project on the go - whether it was woodworking in the garage, tending to the gardens, or quietly fixing something no one else had noticed needed fixing. He will be deeply missed. There will be a private celebration of life.
