Pauline JOHNSTON Obituary

PAULINE JOHNSTON (NÉE CHOA)
PAULINE JOHNSTON (NÉE CHOA) Passed away peacefully in her sleep at Yaletown House in Vancouver, on Thursday, July 14, 2011, attended and blessed by members of her family.
Born in Hong Kong 99 years ago, she was the fifth of twelve siblings, the daughter of the late Choa Po Sien and Choa Li Wei In. She married Thomas Arthur Johnston in 1937 and together they raised six children. She was devoted to all of them.
After retirement, Thomas and Pauline emigrated to Ottawa, Canada in 1983, and finally settled in Vancouver the following decade. Thomas predeceased her in 2000 at the age of 89 after more than 62 years of marriage.
Pauline is survived by her siblings Lady Margaret (Sir Roger Lobo), Dr. George Choa (Maisie), her four sons and two daughters: Thomas Jr., Peter, Mary-Jacquelyn, Valerie (Andreas Hofer), Simon (Sheila Ferguson), and William. She has two grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and an international circle of cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.
In Hong Kong, Pauline was an active member of the Catholic Women's League and other charities. In Vancouver, before frailty took hold, she participated in all the Yaletown House activities including the choir with a ready smile and kind words for anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
We will mourn her passing and celebrate her life at the Richmond Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011 with a service and reception. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Gethsemani Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please remember her with a donation to Yaletown House.
