Per HALL Obituary

HALL, Per (1911-2001)
Passed away peacefully January 8, 2001. Beloved husband of the late Nina, and adored father of Karen (David Moon), Ingrid (Jerry Rogers) and Peter (Margot) McFarlane. Dear Morfar of Wendy, Scott, Daryn and Koby, and dearest Farfar of Krista, Nicholas, and William. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Per graduated from the Royal Danish Technical College in 1933. He married Nina in 1937, and practised civil engineering in England, Sweden, Toronto, Montreal and Hong Kong. A world leader in his time in immersed tunnel technology, he built the Deas Island/Vancouver, Lafontaine/Montreal and the first Kowloon-Hong Kong Island Metro tunnels. He was President of FENCO and subsequently led several engineering firms in Canada and Hong Kong. A keen skier, Per was amongst the original founders of Up-Hill Limited (Mont St. Sauveur) and was inducted last year into the Laurentian Ski Hall of Fame. He helped design and build the Church of Saint Francis of the Birds. At the age 5, his grandfather gave Per his first sailboat in which he crossed singlehandedly from Denmark to Sweden. For the next 85 years he sailed continuously wherever he was in the world. Heartfelt thanks to Tracey-also Place Kensington-for giving our parents the quality of life they so richly deserved. Private burial has taken place. A 'Celebration of Life' will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 29th, 2001 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, 4020 Grand Blvd., Montreal. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. God Speed and Happy Sailing.
