PETER COPP Obituary

Peter passed away peacefully at our beautiful cottage on Miller Island, after a typical summer's day spent on our dock with long-time friends, sunny skies and good food. Nothing was out of the ordinary, yet everything was perfect. He even mowed the lawn in preparation for a bocce game. Peter, my (Joan) lifelong partner, teammate and co-host, continues to love our treasured children Kaitlin, Alyssa and Ryan, and our cottage and couch companion, Rossi. He smiles down on his mom, Laurene; sister, Alison (Brian); and mother-in-law, Elizabeth. He was a special brother-in-law to Mary (Tom), Lisa (John), Joey (Lisa), Cathy (Laura), Lynette, Michael (Stephanie) and Alan (Maev); and a trusted uncle, to Cole (Milan), Brandon, Jonathan, Sarah (Paul), Anna, Thomas (Dianne), Mark (Jaime), Michael (Shari), Mattie (Jackie), Vanessa (Justin), Brittany (Jeremy), Alex (Ashley), Steph (Josh), Charlotte, Madison, Danielle, Lauren, Aidan, Jack and Esme. Peter is now reunited with his father, Bill, and his best friend of 55 years, Larry (Mary Jane). We have spent decades making memories with Larry's family. Now, more than ever, we are bonded and will proudly carry on Larry's and Moe's legacies. Pete was a boundless enthusiast with a long list of hobbies. You may have seen him in his GDHL bib on Craigleith's V-hill chairlift, climbing the Bayview hill on his bike; on the dock, at our dinner table, or in the skies over Lake Muskoka. He instilled in our children a passion for adventure and appreciation for life's many joys. Some of our fondest memories include our family trips filled with laughter, sunny slope-side lunches, the holiday crossword and scenic ski runs – but we were just as happy enjoying coffee together in the backyard. He took every opportunity for time with our family. Peter was a lifelong learner, not fully satisfied to rest on what he knew and a strong believer in ingenuity and education. He was deeply passionate about and fulfilled by his work. Alongside the incredible Dentistry Asleep team, he loved caring for all his patients. "Painless Pete" was proud to share his knowledge with the next generation of dental graduate students, at the University of Toronto, underscoring his values of honesty and thoughtfulness. He was a dedicated colleague, generous friend, fiercely loyal and proud dad and simply the best husband. He is deeply missed and forever loved. Donations in Peter's memory can be made to Hope Air. Peter had planned to join their volunteer pilot program in retirement. Memories, stories and photos can be shared via email with our family at [email protected]. Peter will be interred at Mt Pleasant Cemetery's Memorial Forest. A memorial gathering will take place at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, on Thursday, August 8th, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life is planned. Big love.

Came to know of Dr. Copp's untimely death and are deeply saddened by the news. He was the best of the best and his technical expertise as a Dr and his personal, respectful behavior and attitude towards his patients are simply unmatchable. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire family. His cheerful, smiling face will be missed forever. We have surely lost a very trusted Dr whom we could rely on for our kids treatment.

Just learned of Dr Copps passing. He was my dentist for 30+ years and felt like a dear friend even though our only association was him standing over me in a dentist chair. I am saddened by his passing and wish his family peace and cherished memories.

Dear Joan, Kaitlin, Alyssa, and Ryan,

We were heartbroken to learn just now of Peter´s passing, as we were away in Europe during August last year. Please know how deeply sorry we are for this tragic loss.

Peter was a remarkable man; always so positive, kind, and full of life. Every time we had the privilege of spending time with him, he radiated warmth and left everyone feeling uplifted. Mary Anne and I are profoundly saddened by the passing of such an extraordinary individual, and our hearts ache for you as you grieve the loss of your beloved husband and father.

I will always remember Peter´s wonderful way of making even a dental visit feel like a pleasure. He would come by to chat during my appointments, sharing his warmth and brightening what might otherwise have been an ordinary day. He had such a gift for making people feel at ease, cared for, and genuinely welcomed qualities that truly reflected the essence of who he was.

We hope that the precious memories you hold of Peter; moments spent skiing together on holidays, cherished times at the cottage, and all the special occasions shared as a family will bring you some comfort as you navigate the immense void his absence has left in your lives.

With deepest condolences,

Mike Whelan and Mary Anne DeMonte-Whelan

I am very deeply saddened to hear that Peter passed away. We were good friends in our youth and reconnected when we ran into each other in Gravenhurst and then by happy coincidence when my grandson needed special attention to his teeth. We were able to catch up when he landed his plane on our lake and took me for a flight around Muskoka ending up at his cottage and introductions to his family. I was touched that he shared such fond memories of our friendship nearly fifty years ago. He was a remarkable individual and I'm so sorry for their loss.

I am shocked and pass on my sympathies to his wife and children. He always shared his travel adventures with his family with me. My loyalty knew no bounds. I travelled from Tokyo, London, and New York just to see him and only him! Thank you Peter...... Chris Garek

I can't begin to express how sad and shocked I was to hear of Peter's passing. He was an amazing dentist and we always had a chat about Muskoka during my appointments (we have a place nearby). Who could ever forget those blue suede shoes!

My heart goes out to all the family.

Dear Joan,
My husband Chris and I are in a state of shock. We met you for the first time and now understand we saw Dr. Copp for the last time as we waited in line for the delayed Air Canada flight to Zurich in April. It was such a bizarre coincidence but are we ever grateful now. We had such a great chat. He was the best dentist and the nicest person and will be greatly missed as both. Our deepest condolences to you and your family.
