September 14, 1951 – August 19, 2025 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Peter James Freill. Just a few weeks shy of his 74th birthday, Peter passed away on August 19, 2025, at home, surrounded by loved ones after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons. Born in Montreal on September 14, 1951, to the late James Edward and Kathleen Estelle Freill (nee Gilmour), he possessed a brilliant mind, generous heart and a rare gift for connecting people wherever he was, both personally and professionally. Beloved by many, Peter is survived by the love of his life, Linda (nee Oatway), whom he credited for all the best things in their life together, especially their children, Peter (Daphne), Adam (Heather), Lori Lynn (Ryan), Jennifer (Tom); as well as their grandchildren, Sydney, Regan, Wil, Cailin, Addison, Graydon, Marlowe; and bonus grandkids, David and Kyla. Predeceased by his brother, Robert Freill (Margaret) of NB, Peter will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and business associates. A pillar of the Canadian banking community for over 40 years, Peter thrived on finding innovative solutions for clients in every industry both abroad and at home. A walking encyclopedia of knowledge especially sport facts Peter loved attending the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremonies each year to reminisce with friends, many of whom have their names listed as members. An avid golfer, Peter could be found on any day at Glen Abbey or Richview Golf Course, the home of the December 26th Golf Tournament he created with family and friends to honour his father and support local charities in need. From humble beginnings, Peters larger than life personality, strong work ethic and drive propelled him to success - the fruits of which he never failed to share with others. Always ready with encouraging words, a kind gesture, a legendary story or a shoulder to lean on, he made the world better simply by being in it. He will be missed beyond words, but his legacy of strength, love and loyalty will live on in his family and all who knew him. In keeping with Peter's wishes there will be no funeral, as he would want us to remember him in happy times and in our own way. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Society or a
Charity of Your Choice in memory of Peter.
