Peacefully in Ottawa, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family. Peter is survived by his wife of 67 years, and the love of his life, Peggy (Margaret, nee Wetmore); his children, Paul (Marta) and Julie (Paul); his four adored grandchildren, Sarah, Katie, Peter (Elyssa) and Jamie (Sarah); his older brother, Nick and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He loved us all and was well known for giving the best hugs. Peter was born and raised in Montreal. The youngest of three boys (James and Nick), and part of a large extended family. Growing up in Montreal, in the late 1940s. Peter told us of his early mornings delivering the Montreal Gazette, and he could easily recount his whole route, or tell you about his times hanging out in the Forum Pool Room with the Montreal Canadiens of the day. Peter graduated from Westmount High, then attended McGill briefly, until it was clear he might do better elsewhere, moving to Fredericton and the University of New Brunswick where he met Peggy and graduated in Mech Eng (1956). He loved his career as an Engineer and the people he worked with, taking his family first to Montreal, later to Toronto, Hantsport, Nova Scotia and finally to Port Elgin, Ontario with Ontario Hydro. After retiring, he and Peggy enjoyed life in Port Elgin and travelled near and far. His world map with dozens of red pins and the many friends they met along the way were a testament to their adventures and lifelong commitment to each other. He was an avid golfer, curler and great bridge player and partner to Peggy. He was happiest at the family cottage where there was always a project to do but still time for a game of cribbage or a fun life lesson including how best to shoot a watermelon with his old, 22. Warm, calm, engaging and insightful, Peter's thoughts were often sought, always welcomed and helpful. We will miss him desperately, but know he is with us always. A Memorial Service and reception will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Maynooth, Ontario. Family members can provide details. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation in Barry's Bay, Ontario, or a
Charity of Your Choice.
