Peter MAGADINI Obituary

PETER MAGADINI On August 13, 2023, Peter Charles Magadini passed away peacefully at home, at age 81, in Boise, Idaho. Pete was a loving father to his three children, Britt Camille Magadini, the late Nikolaus Peter Magadini and Grégoire Gérard Louis Magadini; and husband to Barbara Deschu Magadini, mother of Britt and Niko; and then, to Hélène Dallaire Magadini, mother of Grégoire. Peter was born on January 25, 1942, in Great Barrington, MA, to Charles and Ruth Magadini. Pete had an unquenchable passion for music, particularly jazz. He was an outstanding drummer, percussionist, educator, producer and author, and had a special interest and expertise in polyrhythms. Pete played in Phoenix, San Francisco (where he graduated from the Conservatory of Music), Tanglewood, Los Angeles, New York, Toronto (where he received a Master's Degree in Percussion), Montreal, Chicago, Tokyo and Boise. He drummed with many great artists, including Mose Allison, Diana Ross, George Duke, Don Menza, Al Jarreau and Bobbie Gentry. He also played with a considerable number of outstanding musicians in every city where he lived. One of his greatest joys was teaching drums to his students, whether it be privately in his home studio or at his position teaching at Boise State University. Pete's spirit, support of friends and colleagues, sense of humour, and storytelling will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life gathering will be announced later in the fall.

My condolences to the Magadini family. I had the privilege of studying with Pete in Marin County for a couple of years. It was always a pleasure and often a challenge - but just the right balance. Rest In Peace Great Spirit and Master Percussionist.

Heartfelt condolences to Helene and and Pete's entire family. Pete was special person - I took lessons from Pete in Chicago and it was so clear he gave his all as a teacher and musician. I have great respect for Pete and I'm grateful I got to know him.

Peter was a great and giving human being. I enjoyed his company at Washington High School, particulary in Gymnastics and Wrestling.
I still take time occasionally to drive by the home he lived in on 15th Avenue in Phoenix while recalling the good ole days.
Hasta luego Pete

My sincerest condolences to the Magadini family. I took lessons from Peter at his home in Montreal in 1991-92. He taught me a lot and was a very kind and generous soul. May he rest in peace.
