Peter MCBEAN Obituary
PETER A. McBEAN April 28, 1937 - November 3, 2023 Peter was born in Winnipeg, but grew up and got married in Vancouver. He and his beloved wife of 60 years, Gail McBean (née Burt), moved to Toronto in 1968 for a career opportunity with Scotia Bank. Peter was extremely proud of his two children, John (Joanne) and Marnie (Deanah); and his treasured grandchildren, Derek, Danielle and Isabel. As a wartime baby, he found time with his dad both rare and special, and fondly remembers crewing on his dad's boat - the Klewick. He is survived by his four siblings, Sherrill, Alex, Ian and Jay. His Scotia Bank journey encompassed the inspection staff and the international department, peppered with countless tales of uproarious inspections during the '60s in rural British Columbia before being stationed in the corporate head office in Toronto, retiring after 40 years as a Scotia Banker. Peter's heart revved with joy as he traversed the country on his Honda Valkyrie, exploring coast to coast with his biking buddies, the Retreads. He particularly enjoyed the camaraderie of Friday breakfasts with the R.O.M.E.O's (Retired Old Men Eating Out). At home, his workshop was a sanctuary, where he crafted model steam boats, planes and cars. From pocket watches to lawnmowers to cars (he rebuilt a Ford Model T at 16), he tinkered with and could fix almost anything. An engineer at heart with a huge laugh and personality, Pete will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was, and his family is, very grateful for the care and comfort provided by all at Toronto Grace Health Care and EW Bickle Centre, UHN.
