PETER OSTROWSKI Obituary

(May 15, 1950 – July 2, 2025) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Peter Joseph Ostrowski. He died of a heart attack on July 2, 2025, in Brampton, Ontario, shortly after winning a game of pickleball, a sport he loved in his later years. Born in Brampton on May 15, 1950, Peter's life was rooted in intellectual pursuit, global exploration, and a deep commitment to his family. Peter was one of seven siblings: Henry, John, Mary, Paul, Margaret, and Tom. Peter began his career in the early 1970s with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Toronto. He built on this foundation in the 1980s by earning his Master of Business Administration and Master of Engineering, and transitioned into nuclear safety engineering. In the 2000s, he earned his PhD in Business and Technology and began a new chapter as a business professor, a calling that would take him around the world often with Catalyste+, to Abu Dhabi, Thailand, Russia, Armenia, the Philippines, and beyond. After each journey abroad, he would return with a list of cultural observations which were quirky, wise, and always insightful. Peter always felt most at home in Brampton, where he taught at Algoma University for over a decade. He played pickleball, bridge, and enjoyed cycling, cross-country skiing, and hiking, especially on trails like the Bruce Trail in Ontario, the West Coast Trail in British Columbia, and the West Highland Way in Scotland. He was also a gifted handyman and woodworker, often crafting furniture or helping build decks, and using his engineering skills to outsmart backyard animal intruders. Peter is lovingly remembered by his four children, Nick, Rai, Jan and Simone, all of whom brought him immense pride. He was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, and was looking forward to Simone's upcoming wedding this summer. Known for his formidable intellect, dry wit, unwavering discipline, and deep humility, Peter leaves behind a legacy of knowledge, adventure, and quiet strength. In keeping with his wishes, a private cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be held on August 5th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, with a small gathering to follow. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Peter will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and students across Canada and around the world.

Our family enjoyed so much time together with Peter and his young family. One of the most fun times was when the fathers took the boys camping, a couple of times. We also spent so many holidays together, many times at Bragg Creek. Peter, Carla and us had lots of fun playing squash. We have so many good memories.

Peter placed great importance on hard work and education, values he passed on to his four wonderful children. Each of them has gone on to build a life that would make any parent proud. His legacy truly lives on through their achievements, and I know he was deeply proud of the remarkable people they´ve become.
Sending my love and prayers to Nick , Rai , Jan and Simone...Aunty Bev

Peter helped me find my first car. After a diligent review of used cars available in the newspaper listings, he drove me to find out what it was like. The small, wild green Pontiac was perfect and I deeply appreciated all the care, wisdom and direct help he provided!!! Thanks Peter
