PETER PEARSON Obituary
March 13, 1938 – April 2, 2025 Peter Robb Pearson, O.C., acclaimed filmmaker and fierce advocate for Canadian cinema, passed away peacefully at age 87. Known for his landmark films The Best Damn Fiddler from Calabogie to Kaladar, Paperback Hero, and series, most notably Ken Dryden's Home Game, Peter's work helped shape the landscape of Canadian storytelling. Peter served as president of the Directors Guild of Canada, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada and President of the Canadian Council of Filmmakers. His work earned him 19 Canadian Film Awards and in December 2023, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his groundbreaking contributions as a filmmaker and for his tireless advocacy of Canadian film and television. For Peter, the world was an endlessly fascinating and exotic place. A lifelong lover of film, sports, opera and the Sunday New York Times Crossword. Peter loved regaling friends and family with his adventures and was never one "to let the truth get in the way of a good story." He was loved most dearly by his son, Louis (Fiona); his grandchildren, Ella and Leo; as well as Suzanne, Jan, Suzanne, Danielle and Todd A memorial will be held on Friday, May 2nd, at the Cinéma du Musée, located at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal (1379A Sherbrooke St. W.). Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. and a reception to follow.
