PETER PETROPOULOS It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peter Petropoulos, peacefully in his 94th year on August 26, 2022. The devoted husband of Jean for 64 years, loving father and father-in-law of Paul (Leesa) and Jan (Drew) and proud grandfather of Cassy. Uncle to Stuart (Kristel) , Dave (Lauren) and Cathy (Les), David (Maggie), Susan (Dick) and Rob. He was predeceased by his parents Pando and Fanny, brother Jim, in-laws Bill and Kay Laidlaw and special friends Walter Karabin, Don Ball and Mike Neshevich. Peter was born in a small village, Besfina in the Macedonian region of Greece. Peter attended Queen's University BComm '53 and then went onto Osgoode Hall Law School. Peter met Jean in 1956. He had a long career as a lawyer for over 55 years. In 1998 he took on a partner, Jamie Rapos, to help with his practice and continued to go into the office well into his 80's. Peter had many interests- gardening, politics, sports, food, world events, investing, horse racing, lawn bowling and reading. His happiest times were spent at "The Retreat" in his garden. Summer weekends were spent at the cottage in Wasaga Beach. Peter was very generous with his time as well as his advice- whether you asked for it or not! He was deeply involved in the community as a volunteer in the Bayview Village Association, supporting and campaigning for various political candidates and always there for friends or neighbours to help with some advice or support. Peter and Jean enjoyed winter vacations to Florida - Fort Lauderdale and in later years, Vero Beach. The last couple years have been challenging as his physical health declined, living apart from Jean due to her memory challenges and dealing with the sudden passing of his brother Jim. He said over the past years his family expanded as he had many great people come into his life to help him through these times. Special thanks go to Mara, Lynn, Marina and Sham who helped them stay in their family home, as well as all the staff at Amica Bayview Village and North York General Hospital Palliative Care. Peter has touched many people and for all those lucky to have met him, the memories will live on and will be in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honour to North York General Hospital or
Diabetes Canada.
