Peter STOKES Obituary
STOKES, Peter John
Unexpectedly, at home, on Monday July 29, 2013 at age 87. Son of the late John Ansell and Irene Susan Stokes and beloved husband of Ann Tompkins, his wife of 47 years. Peter was born in London, England and arrived in Canada in 1940 as a war guest. He graduated in Architecture from the University of Toronto. In his role as Canada's pre- eminent restoration architect, he worked on many of Canada's most important historic sites including Upper Canada Village and in the towns of Cobourg, Upper Woodstock, New Brunswick, Toronto, Ottawa, Niagara-on-the- Lake and Port Hope. He was an accomplished author of several books and received numerous awards. His passion for Canada's heritage and his uncompromising attention to detail were legendary. He was a kind and gracious man. A memorial service will be held on Thursday September 26 at 2 p.m., St. Mark's Anglican Church, 41 Byron Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
