Peter WONG Obituary

PETER WONG 1952 - 2022 It is with heavy hearts that we announce Peter's passing on February 28, 2022, at age 69 after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by his mother, Doris May Ginn; father, Henry Moon Seung; he leaves behind his beloved siblings: sister, Sue Ann; brothers, Rodin (Sophia), Chuck (Yan Yan); his nephews, Clifford and Justin (Jennifer); his dear friend, Catherine; and beloved godson, Kevin. He also leaves many close cousins and relatives in Toronto, Windsor, Canada, in Temple City, Arcadia, CA, in Phoenix, AZ and in Hong Kong. Peter had a passion for life and enjoyed travel, cycling, cooking, music and living life to the full in all that he did. He loved gathering his friends for parties with free-flowing wine, lots of laughs and engaging conversation accompanied by delicious dishes that he would spend hours preparing. He travelled extensively including several trips to Bali, which he particularly loved. Peter had a distinguished career as a free-lance violinist, a gifted violin teacher and conductor. Through his passion for excellence devotion to his students, he encouraged them to strive to achieve their full potential. Many of his students went on to careers as professional musicians themselves. Peter founded and conducted the Classical Youth Orchestra which became well known in the musical community for its excellence. He also did freelance work with various orchestras including, the Kitchener-Waterloo, Windsor, Victoria and Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestras, Canadian Opera Company and Cosmopolitan Opera. He also coached the violin section of the Mississauga Youth Orchestra for a number of years. Peter was a charismatic, deeply caring and giving person who was generous to a fault and who touched many peoples' lives. Heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful people who provided care during Peter's illness including Dr. Tartaglia and Maria Martinez (social worker) from the Neurology department of Toronto Western Hospital; Dr. Walji and Priscilla from the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative care. Particular thanks to his care workers Elvie, Josie and Bernadette who provided Peter with companionship and dedicated, loving care. My sincere condolences to all those who loved Peter as Todd and I did. I had the pleasure of cycling with Peter to Harbourfront, but mostly, I will remember him as a valued colleague at Dixon Grove school. He was a guest at our apartment for delicious lunches many times. We always had a lot to talk about and we had a lot of laughs. Sometimes he would bring his violin with him and play for us. His passing leaves a great void. Until we meet again, goodbye with loving respect.

Peter was one of the first people I came to know when I arrived in Toronto. What a warm, giving free spirit. Some of my best memories formed here are of watching him perform and how enjoyable it was cycling along Harbourfront, lining up and having lunch at Palais Royale. Am very grateful to have met and spent time with him .... Rest easy dear Peter. You are missed.

My brother Peter was a very loving, supportive brother and a unique person and compassionate being with many talents and abilities. He loved life immensely.

Dear Peter, my beloved brother, your charismatic smiles charmed many and lit up the room upon your entry. Your violin playing was rich and delightful, the notes touched our hearts and soul. Playing the violin was your passion, your mission, and your voice.

I am lucky to have a brother who doesn't judge me but accepts me the way I am. I miss that and everything about you. Safe and peaceful journey until we meet again.
