Philip KRANT Obituary
PHILIP RORY KRANT 1947-2024 The family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Phil on January 25, 2024, at Credit Valley Hospital. Predeceased by his parents, Hen and Teddy, he leaves behind beloved wife, Anne; sons, Phil (Katie) and David (Kim). Devoted Opa to Mackenzie, Brandon, Chloe and Mia. Older brother to Ron and Karin (Murray), and will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews. Phil and his family immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1954 with nothing but a suitcase. He attended York University and excelled at card playing, so he withdrew and started working for Holtzheuser Bros. Encouraged by his friends he applied to Bell Canada where he progressed quickly over his 10 year career. He did go back to York while working fulltime to take night classes in business. A cousin asked him to take over the Eastern division of a Holland-based fish importing company named Jako. It was a difficult decision but he agreed always hoping at some point in his life to be his own boss. He built it into a successful business which still runs today under the capable guidance of his son Philip Jr. Family was always important, dedicating many evenings and weekends to supporting his sons at baseball. His greatest joy later in life was spending time with his loving grandchildren. He was so very proud of them and their accomplishments. Phil was a fighter. He battled numerous health issues for years, but his body finally succumbed to this latest heart attack. We wish to thank the staff in 3G for the care and compassion they showed. As per his wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family burial has taken place in Meaford, Ontario. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Phil.
